Weekly Tech - 24th February of 2025
A really secure VPN? Could Mozilla help us to maintain our websites? What about an uncensored Deepseek, what about architecture and abstraction, ready for more?
Welcome everyone, hope you're all fine?
New week, new weekly tech and this week, more topic, more experimentations and more informations, I finally found time to explore some topics, enough talking, time to start?
Common knowledge
Well, let's start with the general topics and this week, let's discover Obscura, a VPN built by bitcoiners (yes, they know how to handle privacy) that don't track your queries / requests, you will also find (in french, sorry) a really good article about the pros/cons of speculating about Bitcoin future and why, sometimes, changing your horizon time is a good idea.
Obscura, a privacy-first VPN that can't log your activity (built by bitcoiners)
Is Bitcoin a speculative asset? Not for now, at least, not for everyone - French
Cloud computing
So, cloud computing, this week, let's explore an online tool built by Mozilla to test if your applications are ready for current best practices / practices, pretty useful as you can "monitor" your website and see if a regression was introduced and when it was.
Machine learning
Time to talk about machine learning and especially Deepseek in its uncensored version by Perplexity, you will also find an Ollama plugin for Obsidian and Supavec, an open-source alternative to Carbon.ia.
Database
Want to talk about database and especially SQLite? Well, maybe we can talk about it when it comes to using it in production and the pros/cons of it, some points might be hard to accept but let's face the harsh truth, there's no silver bullet.
PHP
Last but not least, Php and how we can improve Laravel, one command at a time, you will also find a feedback about why abstraction is not always a solution and might even lead to issues when it comes to testing and the future of your applications.
That's all for today, do not hesitate to comment / like if you liked this weekly tech, let's meet again next week for another one, until then, have a great weekend and a wonderful week.
See you on Friday!
