Weekly Tech - 3rd March of 2025
Could Caddy scale? A GUI to interact with you local models, is Laravel heading in the wrong direction and a manifest about common sense, yes, this week contains surprises, ready?
Welcome everyone, hope you're all fine?
New week, new weekly tech and this week, PHP is finally back, I finally found time to explore some topics regarding machine learning and cloud computing, well, enough talks, time to start?
Common knowledge
Let's start with common knowledge and the discovery of XenonComp, a tool to compile Xbox 360 games to .exe files (shaders are not totally supported but not a big issue).
Cloud computing
Time to talk about cloud computing with a scaling test between Caddy and Nginx, second topic is Brew, an Nvidia platform that allows to access the latest GPUs while using your favorite cloud platform (GCP, AWS, etc).
Machine learning
So, what's new in machine learning? Not much this week except Msty, a GUI that allows you to interact with models (locally via Ollama or remotely via Claude, etc) and use extra tools like Brave, Youtube transcripts and more, keep in mind that most of the "extra tools" requires a subscription.
PHP
Let's finish this weekly tech with PHP and first, Laravel and its ecosystem (some developers tend to think that the framework is heading in the wrong direction), you'll also find the "PHP Way of Life" manifesto, a common sense call to reduce complexity and focus on the capacity to maintain applications without headaches (PHP was built to be simple at the end).
Ux-Search, a bundle that integrate Meilisearch / Doctrine into Symfony UX
Adding native PHP functions to the ExpressionLanguage syntax
The PHP way of life, a manifesto about simplicity and efficiency
That's a wrap for this week, do not hesitate to comment / like if you liked this weekly tech, let's meet again next week, until then, have a great weekend and a very good week.
See you on Friday!
